Oasi Di Ninfa Tour Itinerary
At heart, Italy is about the countryside around the cities, farmed and fought for over many centuries. A short drive from Rome brings you to Riviera d’Ulisse from Rome traveling along the scenic Agro Pontino marshland.
First stop is the ancient village of Ninfa, long abandoned, then reclaimed into 20 acres of formal gardens in the 1920’s. This labor of love by the titled son a Duke, Gelasio Caetani, features 1300 species of rare plants, gathered from his travels all over the world. Preserved ancient and medieval ruins dot the picturesque landscape.
After a local farmhouse-style (trendy “agriturismo”) lunch (included), you’ll visit the wonderfully preserved walled hill town of Sermoneta, family seat of the Duke of Caetini. The medieval castle, cathedral and Cisterian Abbey are all must-sees.
